Narragansett

Lila Loves

Meet the Malibu of the North East. With some of the best public and private beaches in Rhode Island, Narragansett is both a year-round beach community and a favorite destination for summer tourists. One of the original sea-side retreats of New England, in the 1800s Narragansett was a miniature Newport and a casino-filled playground for Rhode Island’s rich and famous. Things took a turn in the twentieth century, when the city rebuilt itself in the aftermath of the Great Depression and the Hurricane of 1938, opening the door to new construction and new populations. Today, Narragansett has the best of both worlds, offering world-class beach living, surfing, and fishing, with a laid-back attitude— although the population can double in the peak summer months.

Neighborhoods

Galilee

The quaint fishing village of Galilee offers the best of “old salt” sights, smells and flavors. New boats are always coming and going from its harbor, and with such fresh seafood, you can’t go wrong at any of the amazing local restaurants. If you’re feeling adventurous, charter a boat or take a day trip on the Block Island Ferry.

Wakefield

Nestled southwest of Narragansett proper, Wakefield offers a rich and historic commercial area, including the largest shopping area in Washington County. With views of the Saugatucket River and easy access the beaches and downtowns of Narragansett and Kingston, in Wakefield, you don’t have to choose.

Narragansett Pier

The pier is the historic center of Narragansett, embodied in its biggest landmark— The Towers archway over Ocean Road, the last remnant of the 1883 Narragansett Casino built by the famous McKim, Mead, and White architecture firm. Ocean Road itself offers views of the areas most fabulous homes, some of which date back more than a century. In addition to fine dining and shopping, visitors can enjoy some of Rhode Island’s best beaches, including the public Narragansett Town Beach.
