Harvey S. Firestone, son of the founder of Firestone Tire and Rubber along with his wife, Elizabeth Parke Firestone, acquired “Ocean Lawn” in the 1950’s. Mrs. Firestone, a leading connoisseur of the arts, was an avid collector and had special closets constructed within the mansion for her couture clothing and glass collections. She mastered the art of living in the style of Newport and her interiors acquired the patina of fine antique paneling. Windows were fitted with handmade shutters and the drapes were made by Scalamandré. Even the entry gates and lights were custom made for her in France. “Ocean Lawn” contains 24 rooms and also features a children’s playhouse and a pool. More on the estate here.
